Rock

The next genre I will be talking about is Rock

I have decided to talk about rock because I love the bands Imagine Dragons and McBusted. Both of them would fit into the same genre of rock. When I say rock I mean the pop kind of rock not the big heavy metal type with guys screaming words no one can understand into a microphone.

Rock and Roll was huge back in the 1950s in the United States where it has believed to of originated from. Some of the best known greats of Rock and Roll are Elvis Presley and The Beatles just to name a few. In the 1960s particularly in the United Kingdom and the United States rock developed into a range of different styles.

A rock band mainly consists of electric guitars, a bass and drums but is mainly centered around the electric guitar.       Rock is song-based music usually with a 4/4 time signature  using a verse-chorus form.

                                                                                                              Elvis Presley
Over the years rock has been changed more into pop so the lyrics are more love based but also address a wide variety of other themes. In recent times, White male musicians are starting to dominate the rock music genre, such as Imagine Dragons and McBusted.

There has been a big growth in sub-genres over the years in rock. Examples of these are blues rock, folk rock, country rock, and jazz-rock fusion and much more.

Irish Traditional Music

As you can see from the title the genre I will be talking about is Irish music. Being a native Irish man I decided to talk about it.

I enjoy Irish music because it is the type of music that you can just start tapping your foot along to or you just get up and start dancing to.

The Uillleann Pipes                                                                                  Sources: flickr.com                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              The Fiddle

The roots of Irish Traditional Music can be traced back to almost two thousand years ago when the Celts landed in Ireland and they brought their music from Eastern Europe with them. In the late 19th century, Irish songs gained wide appeal around the world. one way Irish Music has gained appeal is by the Irish immigrants who went over to the United States during the famine. Another way it has grown is the spread of Irish pubs in other countries.

Famous Irish Traditional Musicians include the Clancy Brothers, Planxty and the Chieftains have toured much of the world.  More urban and working-class-based music and songs have been represented by groups such as the Dubliners, with hits such as Whiskey In A Jar, Wild Rover and The Fields of Athenry.

Soul Music

The first genre of music I am going to talk to you about is soul. This would have to be my favourite genre. I just love soul music because of the tone. I probably like this genre so much because I am in a  gospel choir and I am a fan of R&B music.            Aretha Franklin

As I already said soul music is a mix of genres between R&B (Rhythm and Blues and Gospel music). You have probably heard of Ben E. King, Aretha Franklin and Otis Redding, well what do they all have in common........? Well they are the greats of soul music. Some of the best known hits from them are Stand By Me, Son Of A Preacher Man and the Dock of the Bay.
Otis Redding
Soul music first kicked off in the late 1950s in the United States but only came to light in the 1960s. The four main different sources where soul music is to believed to have got its roots from are Racial, Geographical, Historical and Economical factors.
                                                                                                         Ben E. King

Over the next two decades soul music dominated the black music chart and also inspired many other music styles of the time.

Over the next few weeks I will be uploading  the history behind music and the geography behind the different genres of music.

Brief History on Music

Did you ever think about where did music originate from? What was the first instrument ever made and played? And did they even have music back in prehistoric times?

Well the main answer is YES they did have music back in prehistoric times.

You have probably known without realizing. You have most likely seen the Egyptian drawings or the carvings in stone from the Celts and you have seen them dancing. Well, they are surely not dancing on the spot to nothing they would of had to of have some sort of music to get themselves into the groove just like we would do today.

It is said that the origins of music have come from natural occurring sounds around mankind which they later adapted to music.

One of the first ever instruments made was a bone flute which dated back as far as 40,000 years ago. Researchers and Archaeologists were studying part of the Swabian caves called Geißenklösterle in southern Germany,  While they were studying the human settlement they came across two bones with holes in them and were later called bone flutes. It is believed they were made of mammoth ivory and bones from birds. Another method used for an instrument would have been from making basic rhythms and sounds with rocks banging against each other.
